PONTEDEUME:
Pontedeume. In the centre of the city you may see the Tower of Andrade, with a
rectangular ground plan and ogival windows. The only remainings that still stand of the
Counts of Andrade Palace. Ten kilometres away from this spot stands the romanic Monastry of San Juán de Caaveiro.
FERROL:
Ferrol, an industrial city with important shipyards and a naval base. It has a geometric
street layout, the Magdalena suburb stands out with a 1791 project plan. The Gate of El
Dique is an example of neoclasic architecture.
VALDOVIÑO:
The beach of A Frouxeira and the lake with the same name protected by a line of dunes
have great ecological value for its water birds as well as for its plant species.
CEDEIRA - SAN ANDRÉS DE TEIXIDO:
A town dedicated to fishing and shellfishing. In its landscape outstand the incredible
stone hills of Sierra de la Capelada where a Curro is celebrated (wild horse shutting-in
and mane cutting). An essential visit is the one to the Santuary of San Andrés de Teixido,
sorounded by the highest cliffs in Europe, to which as the popular saying goes "Those
that in life don´t go, shall after death".
CARIÑO:
A peculiar fishermen town near Santa Marta de Ortigueira, located on the inland of the
river known by the same name. The Hermitage of San Julian as well as its urban sorroundings, outstand right at the end of the famous Cape of Ortegal.
ORTIGUEIRA:
Ortigueira, a peaceful small town in which the church of Santa Marta, built in the 18th
Century, outstands. The river of Ortigueira, between Cape Ortegal and Estaca de Bares
(the most septentrional point of the Iberian peninsula), its landscapes are of great beauty
and an important area for water bird migration.
