IN
THE RÍA DE AROUSA
The Pazo de Hermida is located in Padrón, at the head of the Ría de Arousa.
The town, birthplace of Rosalía de Castro, still preserves the house where
the writer spent the last years of her life, which has been turned into a
museum. A visit to this museum, along with the Camilo José Cela Foundation
is a must. From Padrón it is easy to travel to any point in Galicia. The
ría, one of the most tranquil estuaries in Galicia, offers countless
possibilities for water sports and fishing.
WITNESS TO THE PACT OF LESTROVE
In the 10th C. the Towers of Lestrove were the most visible part of the
defence bastion in the Ría de Arousa and the origin of the Pazo de Hermida,
a manor house with a coat of arms belonging to Galician nobility. Rosalía
de Castro would go there and spend long periods of time -in fact two of
this poet’s children were born there. The Pazo was also a silent witness
to the signing of the Pact of Lestrove, which established the constitution
of the Republican Federation of Galicia in March, 1930.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
Spending a few days at the Pazo de Hermida is like having an inside view
of part of the recent history of Galicia. Stroll through the rooms, sit at
the actual table where the Pact of Lestrove was signed, enjoy the fireside
warmth of the lareira and venture out onto the stone-paved patio to take a
breath of fresh air. The Pazo is surrounded by a vast expanse of land
where there are a number of recreational areas perfect for spending a
pleasant afternoon.
The nearby Ría de Arousa gives you the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful
landscape of the area as well as the possibility of doing all kinds of
water sports. The town of Padrón is also well connected to Santiago de
Compostela, the Rías Bajas and the Costa da Morte, which makes the Pazo de
Hermida a perfect starting point from which to set out on excursions.
