The Pazo de Eidián, is a typical Galician country manor house dating from the late 16th century, which underwent partial transformation with the addition of defensive structures during the 1st Carlist war. It was the ancestral home of the López de Basadre family, whose coat-of-arms presides over the gateway. This stately home was built on land belonging to the Knights-Templar, from whose times only the village chapel remains.

A bit of legend and a bit of history

Florencio Guerreiro was quite a personality in the community of Agolada. A resident of the hamlet of Amance, in the parish of  Santiago de Eidián, he fought as a guerrilla in the Carlist Wars. He led the guerrilla uprising against the Isabeline forces quartered in the Casa Grande de Eidián –also known as the  "Casa do Cego"- causing a large number a casualties. At the  Isabeline quarters, there was a spy (or rather a traitor) who passed on information to Florencio Guerreiro, about the services and incursions that were planned by the troops, so that he and his band of guerrillas could attack them in strategic places. Needless to say, he was among the most wanted by the authorities.

One day, the Isabeline soldiers were out on patrol and happened to pass by the hamlet of Amance. Florencio saw them and after they had passed and were out of hearing range, he shouted insults at them and boasted that he was the famous guerrilla fighter, Florencio Guerreiro, they were searching for. What he didn’t realise was that bringing up the rear was a soldier with a limp, who heard him and shot him in the leg. Florencio was taken captive and put to death. His head was displayed on the pikes at the entrance to the military quarters, next to the coat-of-arms, where it remained for a long time to serve as a deterrent to the townspeople and other guerrillas.

SERVICES

After the recent renovation, all of the old flavour of the manor house has been carefully harmonised with period furniture.

The building is structured around a large patio covered by a vine arbour  and is surrounded by meadows, all part of the property, so that our guests may enjoy the Galician countryside and art. In addition to the rooms, the house offers large living areas to make your stay at Eidián as delightful as possible.

The premises are enclosed by a wall from the same time period as the house, offering guests over fifteen thousand meters to enjoy.

We also offer a restaurant service with several dining areas, one of which still conserves the well, oven and wine press belonging to the Manor House. The largest dining room is decorated with more than twenty narrow defence windows, dating from the times of the Carlist upheavals. So, you will find that our facilities offer an ideal place to have a pleasant rest or to organise lively business meetings or celebrations (by previous reservation).

We offer a pick-up service for guests who are travelling the Way of St. James on foot in the town of Melide (5 min. away by car).
